The 'Rose and Crown’ is owned and managed by Ben Johnson, who was brought up in Great Waltham. At the 'Rose' we take pride in being a genuinely independent locally owned pub, with several of our well-known senior staff having worked at the pub for ten years or more. As many of our customers say, it’s a ‘proper’ pub.

We offer a warm, friendly welcome, traditional ales from the local 'Bishop Nick' brewery, a log burner for the winter and a varied menu with traditional country products, fresh seafood, the usual pub favourites, plus our expanding vegetarian and vegan options. There is a separate takeaway menu, including our in-house or takeaway all-week breakfast menu, plus on Sundays, our popular roasts, along with various ‘Specials’ of the day.

We welcome well behaved dogs in the bar area, but not in our restaurant dining areas, unless they are support dogs. We have baby changing facilities in the ladies toilets and high chairs for infants.

This has added to all the improvements we've made over the past few years - re-tiling of the roof, car park lighting, and fencing, outside decking and seating overlooking the stream, new ladies and gents facilities, seating and upholstery, carpets and flooring, radiators, window blinds and air conditioning in the restaurant. Further improvements include refurbishments of the ‘Snug’ and the more private ‘Old Office’ dining room. Behind the scenes, we’ve had a major re-fit of the kitchen, as well as installing a more energy efficient and environmentally friendly, cellar cooling unit. With our pub signs and outside lighting as well, we're easy to find in Chelmsford Road, Great Waltham
